Who to vote for?

W is for Who to vote for?

I don’t know! I don’t like either of the two main parties nor their candidates. It seems it has gotten to be nothing but one big game . So I don’t know who to vote for in the upcoming election. I won’t vote for either of the two major candidates. I will likely vote for a third party or independent candidate, perhaps even a write in. I still have some research to do in that area. My husband says voting that way is a “wasted” vote. I just can’t justify that. Is it a wasted vote to vote the way I believe? I think saying what I believe, even if it’s not popular, even if it “can’t win” is not a waste. It is my way of expressing my views of how I want this country to be run. That is the system in place in this country (granted, I think it’s a bit broken) and the only way I have of trying to put in my two cents. So in that aspect I don’t feel it is a wasted vote. Still, I am wondering just who to vote for

V is for Venus Flytrap.

I have long been fascinated with the Venus Flytrap. Haven’t most people? I mean, a plant that eats bugs?! Very cool!! Yesterday, I was lucky enough to actually come across some Venus Flytraps for sale! Right in my grocery store! I had to get one (and will be going back for at least one more!) They sit in water and wait for bugs to come along. I have not seen it “eat” yet. But my son did make one of them close by tickling it with a toothpick. I was told that we could even “feed” it hamburger meat! Our guests last night suggested we set it by the front door to help control the mosquitoes there! Our very own form of pest control in a plant! Very cool, Venus Flytrap!

U is for Underpaid.

Yesterday, my son and I were extras in an Adidas commercial. We were looking forward to it, but it was not really what we were expecting. Hey, we were extras, so I guess we shouldn’t really expect much! :) In going back to the original email, it was not misrepresented, per say. We were asked to be basketball fans watching Tracy McGrady and Tim Duncan. We did. Only they weren’t playing, they were coaching high school players! It was ok though. We knew the pay would be very little, but there were no drinks (we knew there would be no food), not even water! We got there on time and sat for two hours before we were led into the stadium. The shooting did not even begin until thirty minutes before the time we had been told we would be released! After two hours, I had to go as we had somewhere to be. It was tough getting past the security folks, as they were not releasing us and wanted us to go sit back down. I told the guy we had to leave and I did it anyway, in spite of his saying we had to go back to our seats…once I got back to the original casting director, it was ok, since we were well past the time we’d committed to staying. All in all, not as fun as it could have been, but it worked out ok. I don’t mind them paying me to come watch, I just wish we could have at least had some water (and they did finally turn on the AC!!) And even though we knew the pay would be very small, the longer we sat there, the less worth it it became. Being underpaid in dollars is one thing, but at least give us some water!

T is for Trampoline.

Yesterday I was able to watch this Olympic event for the first time. I didn’t even know that trampoline was an Olympic event! It was fun to watch. I was amazed by the height these ladies got (are there any men trampolinists?) They were probably five feet in the air. They performed somersaults, flips, and layouts. It was made even more difficult by the fact that they had to stay within a small square on the trampoline mat. What killed me to watch was the abrupt stop they had to come to at the end of their trampoline routine.

R is for Red Raleigh

My old bike was about 13 years old. I have had continuous problems with the gears. And every time I ride it, I got grease from the chain on my legs and clothes. And it was heavy and slow.

We went to the bike shop on Friday. I looked at road bikes, but they start at about $1000, too much for me! When the guy looked at my old bike, he showed me a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike. Kind of like a road bike with straight handle bars.

I love it! It’s shiny and red. It was half the price. He let me take it for a test ride! I came home with this:

It’s much lighter and faster than my old bike. I had smaller tires put on it for an even faster ride. I did buy CO2 and an inflate kit, just in case ! I love my new Red Raleigh!

O is for Ordering awards

O is for ordering awards.

As we draw near to the end of summer, so does our summer bible reading club . This summer, kids from our congregation aw well as many of our friends, have been reading through the Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. As they finished certain levels (every 15 chapters) the kids have earned prizes. It has been a lot of fun.

But now with school only three weeks away, it is almost over. And it is time now to order the awards for the participants in the reading club. Everyone who participates will receive a certificate, no matter how much or little they have read. Those who complete the entire reading will also receive an award medal. I am trying to “guesstimate” just how many will complete so I know how many awards to order!
