L is for Last Long training day before race.

We had a good day training today on our last long training day before our upcoming triathlon. We did a 35 minute swim in the bay. Then a 20 mile ride down the seawall. I even got reacquainted with how to change a flat tire! We did a super short eight minute run after our ride just to get our legs worked out. All in all we had a good day and are looking forward to next weekend! No more long training days as we taper down to race day!

K is for the letter K.

Which I noticed today that both my kids have on their bedroom doors. My daughter’s K is a cute decorated wooden letter standing for her first initial. My son’s is a sticker from an article of clothing I think. It is the first initial of the clothing company! I guess the letter K is important to them for different reasons!

J is for Just Don’t Know.

Which is how I feel as the parent of a teenager. Two actually. And I just don’t know what I am doing. All the things we have done so far have not been really effective in getting our kids where we want them to be. So…if we keep doing what we’ve always done we will only get what we’ve always got. So…we need to something different. I just don’t know exactly what that something is.

L is for Ludicrous.

Which is the way they built my son’s high school. It is at the end of a dead end street with only one way in and out. This is the first year the school has housed all four grades, 9-12. Each year there have been more students than projected. Now with even more students and more of those driving, traffic is horrible. My son is having to leave earlier and earlier just to make it to first period on time. And after school all the buses jam the parking lot. They get to leave first and all the student drivers are backed up waiting. Yesterday morning the cops tried running the traffic lights. My son said they only made it worse. He made it with two minutes to spare before first period. That means it took about 40 minutes to go three miles! Ludicrous!

K is for Kids.

Who are nearly all back at school now. In some ways things are quieter. I have found one thing I like about public school. It makes kids have to get into bed earlier. It forces us back into a schedule/routine. I like that, even though most of my family doesn’t.

I heard today on the radio (Christian station) that they will be saying prayers for kids this week as they go back to school. I really like that idea and know that many will be saying their own prayers for kids they know as they head back to school.

J is for Junk Food.

Which is pretty much what my family has been living on this week. We spent a couple of days doing nothing at the beach. And we lived off of cereal, pop tarts, chips and dip, chocolate covered almonds, cookies and ice cream. I guess living off junk food during vacation is ok, it’s just hard to get back to our routine now!

L is for Lobster.

Which of course we had to eat while in Boston! We ordered lobster bisque, which I thought tasted too “lobster-y” probably due to the very fresh lobster! My husband ordered the lobster platter. Luckily, the waitress, born and raised in Maine, took pity on him and cracked it for him. She of course was an old pro and needed no pliers. The lobster tasted pretty good, but personally, I preferred the clam chowder!

J is for Journey.

We begin our journey tomorrow morning very early. I am looking forward to the sights we will see and the things we will do. I just am NOT looking forward to the COLD weather! Hopefully my layers, gloves and hat will keep the heat in! I even bought some funny looking boots that I think will be perfect for the weather to which we are headed. I may look funny, but I plan to try to stay warm on this journey!
